Miracle with 20 Disappointments

Persistence produces power and nowhere is this more evident than in the story of one of the world’s greatest failures; Abraham Lincoln. His many failures, at least twelve major disappointments on his way to becoming President of the United States, are well documented. How many people would have been able to bear the adversity that Lincoln endured during the American Civil War when nearly half his Cabinet were against him? When asked why he didn’t get rid of them he said, “Don’t I rid myself of my enemies by making them my friends?” At his death they all stood and honoured him with total loyalty. He was able to hold the northern states together by the power of his dedication and convictions and saved the Union. In the process he got rid of one of the worst blights on society – slavery. Persistence is, indeed, the power of achievement.
